Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police Special Operations Team along with the Petbasheerabad police busted a drug racket and arrested three persons including a police constable on charges of manufacturing and supplying Alprazolam, a synthetic drug here on Monday. Police seized 140 kilos of Alprazolam worth Rs.8.5 crore in the market.
The arrested persons were G Linga Goud, proprietor of Dr.Goud Laboratories, M Vinod Kumar from Vijayawada and M Ramakrishna Goud, an Armed Reserve police constable from Medak.
Police said Goud, who did his doctoral studies in Chemistry, started preparing Alprazolam by procuring raw material from different pharma companies and processed the same in the pharma company of his friend Kiran at Vijayawada.
“He took the help of his brother-in-law Ramakrishna, a police constable at the AR Headquarters in Medak to sell the material in and around Hyderabad and made huge profits. The constable misused his official position to avoid the local police in police checking,” said PV Padmaja, DCP (Balanagar).
Following a tip-off, the police team caught the vehicle transporting the drug and subsequently arrested the trio.
