Hyderabad: International kebab brand German Doner Kebab (GDK) is preparing to open its first restaurant in India, with the outlet coming up in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, in August 2026. The launch, led by GBC India, marks the brand’s entry into the country and the start of a wider rollout plan.
GDK currently runs over 170 restaurants across the globe and has developed a strong following among diners who are particular about food quality. The chain has built its identity around a reworked upgraded version of the traditional doner kebab, made with premium lean meats, fresh ingredients, handmade sauces and refined preparation techniques, positioning itself as a byword for quality and modern dining wherever it operates.
The timing of the India launch lines up with a broader shift in the country’s food habits. A growing middle class, higher disposable incomes and greater awareness of with healthier eating options are changing what Indian consumers look for in a meal, while interest in nutrition, fitness and protein intake — particularly among younger diners — has picked up pace. GDK’s entry taps directly into this trend, bringing the classic OG Doner Kebab to India that’s built around lean meats and fresh ingredients, at the intersection of taste, convenience and nutritional value.
For GBC India, the GDK launch fits into a larger strategy of bringing established global food brands into the Indian market. Backed by more than 15+ years in food supply chain operations, sourcing and quality management, the GBC India says it has the operational base needed to introduce international brands to India without compromising on consistency or standards.
GBC views the GDK launch as more than a single restaurant opening — the company sees it as the start of a new category in India’s food and beverage industry, centered on better-quality ingredients, protein-forward meals and dining formats built for India’s next generation of consumers.
Ginny Sahni, Managing Director of GBC India, said: “GBC has always been about quality, innovation, and connecting with people through food. Having worked with German Doner Kebab UK for over a decade, we understand their standards and culture intimately. Launching GDK in India is a natural next step, bringing freshness, flavour, and a global dining experience to our local audience.”
Vikrant Tomer, CEO of GBC India, added: “The future of food belongs to brands that understand people beyond the plate. Today’s consumers move seamlessly between fitness, fashion, music, content, and culture, and the brands they choose need to reflect those lifestyles. India is seeing a growing appreciation for protein-rich meals and premium dining experiences, making this the perfect moment for GDK to enter the market. We believe the brand is uniquely positioned to connect with a generation that values both quality and experience.”
Simon Wallis, CEO of GDK International, said: “India is one of the world’s most exciting food markets, and entering this landscape is a natural step in our global journey. Our mission at GDK is to elevate the kebab experience one kebab, done right, at a time. With GBC as our partner, we are confident of delivering on that in India. Together, we will bring a brand that is not only about superior tasting food but also about culture, lifestyle, and creating everyday moments that matter.”
Following the Hyderabad opening, GBC India will roll out GDK in phases nationally, with a target of 450 restaurants over the next ten years. The expansion will start with major metros and fast-growing urban centres, as the company looks to position GDK as India’s leading premium doner kebab brand and build a platform for future international food concepts in the country.
