Hyderabad: The commencement of operations of the vaccine testing laboratory at National Institute of Animal Biotechnology in Hyderabad was expected in a month, said Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy on Saturday.

Considering the fact that Hyderabad is home to many big pharma companies, Covid-19 vaccine production companies and R&D institutions concerned, the setting up of a new vaccine testing laboratory in Hyderabad is a big step forward towards comprehensive development of this sector which will also boost the production of Covid-19 vaccines.

I thank Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji for sanctioning funds for setting up of Vaccine Testing Lab at Hyderabad from #PMCares Fund.

Kishan Reddy said the Covid-19 pandemic has brought with it a lot of challenges. Under the proactive and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central government has taken a number of effective and timely steps to address these challenges.

One such step was the ambitious mission to develop India’s own vaccination for Covid-19. The scientists and the researchers displayed exemplary commitment in developing India’s own cost-effective vaccine in a short time which has helped in saving many precious lives.

This increased focus on vaccine production has also necessitated the requirement of more number of vaccine testing laboratories in the country. At present, there are two such laboratories in the country – Central Drug Laboratory at Kasauli and National Institute of Biologicals in Noida.

In addition to this, funds have been released from the PMCARES Fund on March 6, 2021 for establishing two more laboratories, one at National Centre for Cell Science in Pune and another at National Institute of Animal Biotechnology in Hyderabad under the Department of Biotechnology.

On behalf of the people of Hyderabad, Kishan Reddy thanked the Prime Minister for sanctioning funds for setting up of a lab in the city.
