Hyderabad: Hyderabad will host the Ekagra All India FIDE Rated Chess tournament from January 14 to 21 at the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium.
The tournament, being conducted by the Telangana Chess Association and Ekagra Chess Academy, will be held in open and below 1600 rating points categories. The tournament in open category will be held from January 14 to 18 while for below 1600 will be held from January 19 to 21.
The tournament, which is expected to see over a thousand players, will have a cash prize of Rs 21 lakh. Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) chairman A Venkateshwar Reddy said it is a great honour for the city to host such a big event after the pandemic.
Telangana Chess Association President KS Prasad said that the Telangana Chess Association said the tournaments like these will further enhance the strength and skills of the State players.
