Officials briefing about the Senior National Archery Championship in Hyderabad.
Hyderabad: The Senior National Archery Championship will be held at Hyderabad Public School (Begumpet) here from Wednesday, featuring about 970 archers from across India in both men’s and women’s sections, according to Ashwin Rao, organising secretary.
Speaking to the media in the presence of Development Committee member Putta Shankaraiah, Competition Director Paia B War Nongbri and Jury member Dr Joris, Ashwin said that the prestigious national event was returning to Hyderabad after a long gap of 48 years.
“A total of 43 units — including all states and union Territories — are participating in this Senior National Championship,” he said.
“We hope that this Nationals will inspire many young talents across Telangana and help us in building up a strong Indian team for the next Olympics,” Ashwin said.
“We are grateful to the State Government for its complete support in hosting the championship, which also features big names like Dheeraj Kumar, Jyothi Surekha Vennam,” Shankaraiah said.
“The inclusion of the compound category in the 2028 Olympics has opened new opportunities for Indian archers,” he said.
