Hyderabad: An 18-month-old girl and her grandmother died while her mother was severely injured when a rashly driven truck mowed them down at Kompally on Thursday.
The incident occurred around 11.40am, when the girl Ashwini, who was ill for the last few days, was returning from hospital with her mother Sangeetha Devi (30) and grandmother Poonam Devi (52) to their home in Subhash Nagar.
According to the police, after seeing a doctor at a private hospital in Kompally, the three were crossing the road, with Ashwini in her mother’s arms. The truck, which was proceeding from Medchal towards Suchithra crossroads, mowed them down.
“The toddler fell on the road and died on the spot. Poonam Devi was shifted to Gandhi Hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment,” police said, adding that Sangeetha Devi survived with minor injuries.
The Petbasheerabad police booked a case of negligence causing death and injuries and took up investigation. The truck driver was taken into custody and the vehicle was seized.
