A 64-year-old man from Tolichowki lost Rs 1.4 lakh after calling a fake customer care number he found online while trying to report a missing grocery item. Cybercrime police said the fraudster posed as support staff and stole money from his account
Hyderabad: A senior citizen who tried to resolve an issue regarding missing groceries ordered through an online grocery platform lost Rs 1.40 lakh to fraudsters.
The victim, aged 64 years, is a resident of Tolichowki in the city. Three days ago, the victim ordered some grocery items and after it was delivered, an item was found missing.
The customer then tried to reach out to the call centre of the company and searched for a contact number on the internet. “The victim noted a number found on the internet and contacted someone who took the call for help. However, the conman duped and made away with Rs 1.40 lakh from the bank account,” said the Cybercrime police.
