Hyderabad: A total of 1,460 surveillance new cameras were added to the CCTV network at a cost of Rs 1.19 crore under the Malkajgiri zone.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu, inaugurated them at a formal event on Friday. Of them, 410 cameras have been installed in 17 residential colonies, covering major roads and junctions, including a two-year Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC), under a community initiative.


The remaining 1,050 cameras have been installed across 212 vulnerable religious places as part of a special drive. These cameras will be integrated with the Command and Control Centre, where a dedicated team will monitor them round the clock.

With this addition, a total of 5,260 Community CCTV cameras and 93,061 cameras under ‘Nenu Saitham’ initiative have been installed and a total 98,321cameras were geo-tagged within the Malkajgiri Zone.

Speaking on the occasion, Sudheer Babu highlighted the crucial role of surveillance cameras in enhancing public safety and crime prevention. He stated that cameras were instrumental in deterring criminal activities, assisting in investigations, enabling proactive policing, aiding in crime analysis, and promoting a secure environment.

He noted that the Rachakonda Police had solved several sensational cases with the help of CCTV footage in the recent past.

The Commissioner further appealed to colony and community elders to come forward and take the initiative to install CCTV cameras in their communities.
