Hyderabad: The Traffic Police is gearing up to implement one-way traffic system around KBR Park from August 18, in view of the ongoing construction of flyovers and multi-level structures in the area.

Arrangements are being made to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and minimise inconvenience to commuters when the new system comes into force. The police have been monitoring traffic patterns during trial runs and consulting local residents, morning walkers and resident welfare associations to fine-tune the diversion plan.

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said the traffic arrangements were finalised after comprehensive studies, two rounds of trial runs and coordination with the GHMC. The temporary restrictions are aimed at facilitating faster completion of the construction works while ensuring that traffic movement remains as smooth as possible.

The multi-level structures, once completed, are expected to ease congestion at KBR Park Entrance, Road No. 45, Film Nagar, Maharaja Agrasen and Cancer Hospital junctions and facilitate signal-free movement. At the heavily congested Jubilee Hills Check Post Junction, the traffic bottlenecks are expected to be reduced substantially

The improved traffic flow will also help cut travel time between the core city and the IT corridor and reduce fuel consumption. The police also expect reduced vehicle idling at major junctions to help bring down carbon emissions in the KBR Park area.

Sajjanar said commuters could face some initial inconvenience owing to the route changes, but the temporary arrangement was essential for completing the construction works at the earliest.

“Temporary one-way traffic is for long-term benefit. We request citizens to extend their full cooperation to the police during this project,” he said.

Traffic officials said personnel would be deployed at key junctions to guide motorists and regulate the flow during the initial days of the diversion. The arrangements will be reviewed continuously and modified wherever necessary to avoid bottlenecks and ensure hassle-free movement.
