Hyderabad: On Monday night, it was duty as usual at Somajiguda for Sirupangi Mahesh Kumar, a traffic policeman who has been in service for a decade now. But a video that has now gone viral shows him going beyond the call of duty to serve the needy.
Mahesh, attached to the Punjagutta Station for the last two years , was on duty at Somajiguda when he saw two children begging for food on the roadside at 11 pm.

“No one was willing to help them. I couldn’t stop myself and took out my dinner and served it to the children,” he says.
The Hyderabad City Police shared a video of this on social media, which quickly went viral, earning him appreciation and applause from different quarters. Mahesh says since he is often on duty in that area, he has seen the children earlier too, with their father who seeks alms on the roads.
“Due to the lockdown, the children were not able to get food or buy anythingand were starving for hours. The smile on their faces was priceless when I offered them food,” says Mahesh, hoping that after seeing the video, at least a few will change the negative perception they have about policemen.
