Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Traffic Police will introduce a one-way traffic system around KBR Park from August 18, in view of ongoing flyover and underpass construction works under the H-CITI Project.

According to the traffic police, the restrictions have been necessitated by reduced road space due to construction activity. With traffic volumes remaining high, allowing two-way movement on the available carriageway could lead to congestion, delays and increased conflict points.

Before introducing the system, Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted two pilot trials on April 5 and June 21. The first trial was conducted for around three hours, while the second continued for nearly six hours. Traffic flow, junction performance, lane discipline and congestion points were monitored during the trials, following which modifications were made to the final arrangement.

Officials said as part of the implementation, lane markings and directional signage will be installed at key locations. Traffic personnel will be deployed round-the-clock to guide commuters, while CCTV surveillance through the Integrated Command and Control Centre and drone monitoring will be used to assess traffic conditions.

Apart from this, navigation and Google Maps route changes will also be made to help commuters plan their travel. Motorists have also been warned against wrong-side driving, even during night and off-peak hours, said the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, VC Sajjanar.

Illegal or obstructive parking on bends, on the wrong side of the road or in locations that block traffic and emergency movement will not be permitted. Officials said the arrangement will be continuously reviewed and modified if required based on real-time traffic conditions.

Citizens have been requested to plan their trips and follow traffic rules and the instructions of police personnel.
