Hyderabad: Truck driver alleges police torture

Hyderabad: A truck driver has accused the RGIA police of abusing, assaulting and confining him. The incident occurred three days ago and came to light on Tuesday after the driver’s relatives met AIMIM leader and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi.
The driver, Subhan, alleged that his truck laden with goods worth Rs 40,000 was stopped by traffic police personnel near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad for checking on Sunday. An argument ensued between Subhan and the police personnel after the latter allegedly made derogatory comments on him. He was also allegedly detained by traffic cops and taken to a police station where he alleged that cops tortured him for three days.
The MP, after Subhan’s relatives approached him, spoke to the inspector and got him released. Owaisi also took to Twitter and said he spoke to the DGP, who assured strict action. The issue was taken up with Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar as well. According to sources, an internal enquiry was launched into the incident.
