Hyderabad: A couple, both construction workers and natives of Nepal, were killed after a truck mowed them down at Alwal early on Monday.
According to police, the incident occurred when the two, Rooplal Bandari (35) and his wife Meena Devi (30), finished work on Sunday night and were walking home to Bolarum. The driver of the truck, allegedly drunk and driving rashly, hit them from behind near the Shiva temple at Temple Alwal.
“The driver lost control of the wheel, and the vehicle ran over the couple. They died on the spot,” police said, adding that though passers-by tried to shift them to a nearby private hospital, they had died by then.
The Alwal police booked a case for negligence causing death. The bodies were shifted to the Gandhi Hospital morgue for autopsy and were later handed over to the family. Efforts are on to nab the driver, who fled after the accident.
