Hyderabad: Two persons, who duped a city-based woman of Rs 1.2 crore on the pretext of online investment in the share market, were arrested by the Hyderabad Cybercrime police on Thursday. The police seized debit cards, three mobile phones and Rs 1 lakh.

The arrested persons were Rajat Patheriya and Ashwin Badare, both natives of Madhya Pradesh.

According to the police, the two teamed up with seven other suspects and were cheating the public on the pretext of online trading.

The victim in April last year received a notification on Facebook from the account of one Saskhi Mehta, who introduced herself as a consultant in share trading and managing a company ‘Central Trading Research’ in New Delhi. On ‘her’ advice, the victim opened a demat account for online trading and initially transferred Rs 5 lakh.

“Mehta later told her that she got Rs 88 lakh as profit and lured her into investing more money. She thus transferred Rs 1.2 crore,” Hyderabad cyber crime officials said.

Following a complaint from the victim, the police booked a case and caught the two.
