Hyderabad: The North Zone Task Force along with Tukaramgate police on Friday caught two persons on charges of illegally procuring marijuana from Odisha and supplying it to customers in Hyderabad. Police seized 10 kg of marijuana worth Rs 70,000 from them.
The arrested were identified as S Bardhan (32) from Odisha and Ch Prasad Raju (26) from Srikakulam of Andhra Pradesh. Andri alias Sagar from Odisha is absconding.
According to police, Sagar illegally smuggled marijuana from Angur village in Odisha with the help of his associates Bardhan and Prasad Raju, to Hyderabad in private buses, police said. They purchased marijuana for Rs 1,500 per kg from cultivators and sold it at Rs 7,000 a kg.
Last week, they procured marijuana and were transporting it to Hyderabad in a private bus when following a tip-off, the police caught Bardhan and Udayagiri, while Sagar managed to escape. The arrested along with the seized material were handed over to Tukaramgate police for further action.
