Hyderabad: Two international passengers who had reached Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here on Friday from at-risk countries have tested positive for Covid-19 in their RT-PCR tests, according to Director of Public Heath (DPH), Dr G Srinivasa Rao.

Both the passengers have been shifted to Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) Gachibowli for isolation. To ascertain whether the passengers have Omicron variant, their blood samples have been collected and sent for full genome sequencing, he said.

A total of 668 passengers had landed at the Hyderabad airport on Friday, of which two travellers tested Covid positive while the remaining 666 passengers tested Covid negative in their RT-PCR tests.

Since December 1, the surveillance teams at the airport have conducted RT-PCR tests on 3235 international passengers from at-risk countries. A total of 15 passengers tested positive for Covid-19 out of which 13 did not have Omicron variant while genome sequencing results of the two are awaited.
