Hyderabad: When Shashank was only 14 years old, he started working on developing a smart cycle. However, with school taking the priority, he decided to keep that thought in the back burner. He then joined college for his engineering and the old idea got reignited.
Shashank got along with his friend and business partner Adithya to start Ermin Automotive and after working on the product for three years, the duo have now launched a smart cycle called Ermin Miles.
“It was in 2019 that we both got together and started developing this product from the scratch. After three years, we are now ready with our Ermin Miles smart cycle which adapts to the user’s cycling behavior and road conditions. It also has a regeneration module that increases the battery range by 75 per cent,” says Shashank (21), a BTech graduate from ICFAI University and the founder and CEO of Ermin Automotive.
A major feature of the smart cycle is that it can detect the pedaling speed of the cyclist and in case the user slows down, the battery will pick up the speed and keep the motion going. The handles also have heart rate sensor and if the heart beat reaches a certain number, the sensors will get activated and the cycle will start operating on battery mode.
“Currently, there are three models we are offering – 50 km, 75 km and 100 km range smart cycles and batteries with 10, 15 and 20 Ah power. We did a few pilots and based on the feedback have tweaked the product as well. The first 100 smart cycles will be customised and thereafter we plan to standardise the product. We have a unit in Gachibowli wherein we can make 20 cycles per month,” says Adithya, co-founder and product director and a BBA graduate from ICFAI University.
The company has opened pre-orders and looks to start delivering the smart cycles from March 2022.
More EV firms evince interest in Telangana
The electric vehicle policy launched by the Telangana government is bearing fruits and the recent investment by Triton is testimony to that. And now, many more companies are looking at the State to set up their EV manufacturing units.
“The Telangana government is going all out to support any and every company working in the EV space. The recently-launched EV policy will provide all the necessary support to the companies. Many have appreciated the policy and are keen in investing in Telangana. We might see more companies coming in to set up their units in the State soon,” said Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary, Industries and IT department, Telangana.
Ranjan was speaking at the launch of Ermin Automotives and appreciated the startup’s efforts in building a smart cycle. He also mentioned that four to five companies are working in the electric vehicle space in Hyderabad and mostly in the two-wheeler zone.
