Hyderabad: The ongoing underground power cable works at Sri Ram Nagar on the Yousufguda-Borabanda stretch ended up causing significant traffic disruptions on Sunday.
Incidentally, this is the only stretch where hundreds of commuters proceed from Yousufguda check-post to reach Mothi Nagar, Kalyan Nagar Venture II and III, Borabanda, and Rahamath Nagar, and vice versa.
In view of the cable work, the traffic police barricaded the route at Kalyan Nagar Venture-III and diverted the city buses and policemen were deputed at the site to divert the traffic. Due to the cable work, all the city buses were diverted to alternative roads via Yousufguda Basthi, Krishna Kanth Park, GTS Colony, Rajiv Nagar, and Kalyan Nagar Venture-III and vice versa.
Commuters reported long delays and congestion, particularly during the peak hours. Nearby residents expressed frustration over the lack of clear signage and the slow pace of the work.
The work was commenced on Sunday morning by the TGSPDCL as power cables were damaged by the GHMC during the ongoing underground drainage works at Sri Ram Nagar area. “The work is expected to be completed by this night,” a senior TGSPDCL official told ‘Telangana Today’.
Apart from the residents of various colonies, businessmen expressed frustration over the lack of communication between the two key departments. The cable work resulted in the power supply being cut to several areas in the colonies, which added to the inconvenience.
