Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based supermarket chain Urban Supermart will invest Rs 80 crore to establish 80 stores in the next three years that would provide employment to 1,400 persons. Each store houses nearly 10,000 stock keeping units and will provide free delivery within six km, the company Director Arun Kumar said on Saturday. It is planning to have a millet festival soon and will focus on having more sustainable products, he said.
Launching the 15th store of the company, Industries Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said retail was one of the thrust areas of the Telangana government and accordingly, it has been accommodated in the Industrial Policy of the State that aims at providing sustainable industrial development and creating gainful employment.
Along with major retail outlets such as IKEA and Walmart, the State has homegrown brands like Urban Supermart, which opened 15 outlets in one year, he said. Urban Supermart sources farm-fresh vegetables and fruits from farmers in Mulugu. It works on a 12-hour farm-to-store model and has so far provided employment to 300 persons and is now on expansion mode. The company ventured into the food and grocery retail sector in November 2020 and serves 1.25 lakh customers every month.
