Hyderabad: Demanding the State government regularise their services, contract teachers working in 12 universities staged a dharna at Telangana Council of Higher Education here on Wednesday.

The teachers condemned the recent GO MS 21 that enables universities to recruit new teachers. They wanted the State government that had promised to regularise services of the contract teachers to be fulfilled before going in for the fresh recruitment. If not, they wanted the universities to absorb into the departments concerned or provide them with at least basic, DA and HRA, along with three percent annual increment, and job security.

During the protest several teachers were detained by the police and shifted to various police stations in the city. “Making illegal arrests without even considering women professors or those who are sick is a violation of democracy. We will continue to move forward on a larger scale until our demands are met,” said Dr. Dharmateja, coordinator Telangana Universities Contract Assistant Professors JAC

Another contract teacher Dr. Parasuram said the previous BRS government regularized junior lecturers, degree lecturers, and polytechnic lecturers. “We also have the same eligibility criteria for degree lecturers. When the service of contract teachers in universities in other States has been regularized, why are unenforceable conditions coming in our state?” he added.
