Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly murdered her six-year-old daughter after believing the child was an obstacle to her extramarital relationship at their residence in Alwal.
The suspect woman, identified as Rekha, was residing with her family in Ambedkar Nagar. She was married to Raju in 2020, but the couple had reportedly been living separately following disputes. Rekha had a daughter, Tanvika, and was staying with her parents after marital differences.
According to the police, during this period, Rekha allegedly developed an illicit relationship with a man named Sai (21), who worked at a grocery store in the locality. While Rekha wanted to marry him, Sai reportedly refused, stating that her young daughter would become a hurdle for their future together.
Police said Rekha then plotted to eliminate the child. On Saturday night, she allegedly took Tanvika to the rooftop of their house and pushed her into a water storage tank before closing the lid. She then filled the tank with bore water, causing the child’s death.
To mislead the family, Rekha reportedly staged a drama claiming that her daughter was missing. On Sunday evening, the girl’s body was discovered in the sump by Rekha’s sister, Shwetha, who alerted the Alwal police.
Initially, the case was registered as a suspicious death. However, during the investigation, CCTV footage showed Rekha taking the child to the terrace, which exposed the crime.
Police have arrested Rekha and also booked Sai in connection with the case.
