Hyderabad: A woman from the city was duped to the tune of nearly Rs 3 lakh on the pretext of high returns from online investment. The woman, a resident of the old city, had recently received a message with a link on her mobile phone from an unknown number.
Officials said she clicked on the link which opened to a website called ‘Investment Shop Now’, which had several offers for short term investments but with high returns. Within few minutes, she received a call from an unidentified person who convinced her into investing.
“She invested Rs 10,000 first and shared her bank account and other personal details. Initially, they showed Rs 1,000 as profit and pressurised her to invest more money, which she did,” an official said, adding that the person then switched off his phone.
Based on her complaint, the Hyderabad Cybercrime police have booked a case and are investigating.
