Hyderabad: A woman approached the Kamatipura police on Thursday alleging that she was cheated in the name of marriage.

The 35-year-old woman from Murali Nagar in Kamatipura, a private employee, lost her husband a few years ago. Police said she eventually became friends with one Praveen, also a private employee from the same neighbourhood. Praveen had proposed to her and she accepted. He also promised her better jobs with the help of his contacts. The two were moving and living together and had also decided to marry last year. However, according to the police, when the victim recently asked Praveen about getting married, he refused and started avoiding her.

He also abused her and threatened her with dire consequences, police said, adding that based on her complaint, a case was booked and investigation was on.
