Hyderabad: A cyber fraudster cheated a woman, who was looking for a suitable alliance on a matrimony site, and left her with debts to the tune of Rs 8 lakh apart from taking away more than 3 tola gold.
According to information available, the victim from Choutuppal in the city had posted her profile on an online matrimonial site. The fraudster who contacted her claiming to be employed with a pharmaceutical company in the city and presently living in Visakhapatnam, gained her confidence.
The suspect discussed marriage plans, including going to the US after marriage, with the victim and told that he would be coming and meeting her parents.
Meanwhile, he told the victim that his father would be depositing some amount and collected her bank details and when Rs 8 lakh was deposited, he got the same transferred to himself. On the pretext of applying for Visa and other works related to travelling to the US, he sought more money and collected three tola gold ornaments from her.
The woman realised she was cheated and that the suspect had used her details for a bank loan of Rs 8 lakh, when she started receiving alerts from the bank seeking EMIs. Following this, she approached the cyber crime wing of Rachakonda police to register a complaint.
