Hyderabad: A 21-year-old woman died by suicide allegedly over dowry harassment in Gachibowli on Thursday night, barely a year after her marriage.

The victim, identified as Anusha, ended her life following prolonged harassment linked to dowry demands.

According to her family, Anusha’s husband was addicted to alcohol and frequently subjected her to physical and mental abuse. They alleged that he had pawned five tolas of gold brought by her from her parental home and continued to demand additional dowry.

Despite repeated interventions and counselling by family elders, his behaviour reportedly did not change.

Following the incident, Anusha’s mother, Chennamma, lodged a complaint with Gachibowli police, alleging dowry harassment.

Police have registered a case and are investigating to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
