Hyderabad: A newly-wed woman who attempted to die by suicide by jumping from a multi-storied building allegedly due to the harassment from her husband and in-laws in Musheerabad, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital on Friday.

A Sowjanya (28) had an arranged marriage with K Shabarish of Bholakpur in November 2024 and the couple was living with Shabarish’s parents and siblings at Bholakpur in Musheerabad.

According to the police, though at the time of their wedding, Sowjanya’s family gave dowry including cash of Rs 5 lakh and 22 tula gold ornaments, Shabarish and his family members kept demanding additional dowry. They used to harass her both mentally and physically. Moreover, they asked her to leave the house and go to her parents.

Unable to take further harassment, Sowjanya jumped from a multi-storied building on Thursday evening. She suffered grievous injuries and was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital, where she died under treatment on Friday.

The Musheerabad police are investigating.
