Hyderabad: The Hayathnagar police solved the murder case of Mohd.Mustaq Patel (46), a truck driver whose body was found in a car last week and arrested his wife and her paramour in connection with the murder late on Monday. An extramarital affair led to the killing, police said.
The arrested persons were Mohd Hameed Patel (37), an auto-rickshaw driver, Mustaq’s wife Firdous Begum (35), a vegetable vendor, and Syed Nayab (23), a vegetable seller, all three from Saidabad.
Mustaq and Firdous Begum were married for 15 years and have three children. The family lived at Jahangir Nagar in Saidabad. According to LB Nagar DCP Sunpreeth Singh, Hameed Patel and Firdous Begum, both natives of Karnataka, were known to each other. For the last two years, they were having an extramarital affair.
“Mustaq Patel learnt about the affair and warned his wife. He also started beating and harassing her,” the DCP said, adding that Firdous Begum decided to eliminate her husband and shared the idea with Hameed, who agreed to execute her plan.
“They kept a close watch on his movements and waited for an opportunity to murder him. In September, they attempted to kill him by getting him fully drunk, but the attempt failed as he was not completely drunk,” the DCP said.
On the morning of October 22, Hameed went to the victim’s house and invited him for a liquor party. They traveled in the victim’s car and Hameed made Mustaq fully drunk until he fell unconscious. On Hameed’s instructions, Syed Nayab bought chilli powder and a knife. They drove the victim in his car to an isolated spot on the Batasingaram road via LB Nagar and Vanasthalipuram.
“While Firdous Begum firmly held Mustaq’s legs, Nayab hit on his head with an iron rod and Hameed slit his throat killing him on the spot,” Sunpreeth Singh said, adding that they took the body in the car towards Hayathnagar and abandoned the car on the road before fleeing the spot.
