Hyderabad: A 27-year-old woman, the caretaker in a school in Barkas in the Old City, who sexually abused and also used a lit cigarette on a minor boy in the school washroom, was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, on Thursday.

The sentence was pronounced by the special court for POCSO Act cases here while delivering the judgment on the case, based on the gruesome incident that happened in Chandrayangutta in November 2017. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the woman. The convicted woman, K Jyothi alias Manjula (27), molested the child when he went to relieve himself in the washroom. She misbehaved with him and also threatened him not to reveal it to anyone.

Police said Manjula also used a lit cigarette and caused burn injuries on his hands while sexually assaulting him. The boy, who was initially scared of the consequences, later revealed what happened to his parents, who approached the Chandrayangutta police and lodged a complaint. The Chandrayangutta police booked a case and subsequently arrested her.
