Hyderabad: Demonstrations and rallies were held in the city in support of the ‘hijab’ on Wednesday. The programmes were conducted under a strict vigil of the police.
More than a hundred students of Government Nizamia Tibbi College and Hospital at Charminar took out a rally on the campus in the afternoon. The girl students wearing ‘burqas’ marched holding placards with messages in support of the hijab and against its communalisation. A few of them carried black flags to register their protest. The students said they stood in support of the girls in Karnataka who are facing issues while attending educational institutions wearing hijab.
At Mallepally, students of the Anwarul Uloom College staged a demonstration on the college premises and condemned the harassment of Muslim girls in Karnataka. The police prevented the youngsters from coming to the streets and restricted them to the campus.
A mass prayer gathering was held at Ujale Shah Eidgah in Saidabad by a group of women from the locality. The women prayed for the safety and security of the women who were being harassed for wearing hijab. Around 200 women participated in the prayer meeting. Police personnel was deployed in large numbers to prevent any untoward incident near Eidgah Ujale Shah Grounds.
