Hyderabad: A youngster from Hyderabad, Sai Ram Pillarisetti, who is pursuing final year MBBS at University of Lancashire, UK, was invited as a ‘Health Hero’ to the UK Houses of Parliament to interact with the MPs on public health issues including vaccine equity and importance of foreign aid, a press release said.
Sai Ram was the youngest medical student to participate in the interaction event at UK House of Parliament, which was organised on February 22 by UNICEF, The One Campaign (Global anti-poverty organization), Save the Children, and others.
Apart from the young student from Hyderabad, a general practitioner, Dr Phillip Heywood, hospital consultant, Dr Alexa Vardy and a nurse Helen Bridges were also invited to the Houses of Parliament last evening.
Speaking on the occasion, Sai Ram said that only 12 percent of individuals in low income countries have had at least one vaccine dose, in comparison with 90 percent of those in high income counties. “In this regard, it is highly appreciable that the Government of India launched World’s largest vaccination drive,” he said.
The final year MBBS student in the UK Houses Parliament said that the only way to end the pandemic is to ensure vaccine equity at the soonest possible time frame.
