Hyderabad: A young man attempted to immolate himself on the main road in full public view at Jubilee Hills check-post here on Wednesday.
The man, identified as Kalyan (25) from East Godavari of Andhra Pradesh, was reportedly depressed and doused his body with petrol, after which he set himself ablaze in the afternoon. Locals and passersby rushed to his rescue and shifted him to the Osmania General Hospital, where he is being treated.
The Jubilee Hills police, who initially doubted whether it was a murder attempt, are learned to have recorded Kalyan’s statement, in which he reportedly said he had set himself on fire.
“He suffered over 90 per cent burns and is critical. He is suspected to have been depressed and attempted suicide. The reason is not yet known. We are trying to trace his family members,” police said.
