Hyderabad: With increasing consciousness about being eco-friendly, city’s youth seem to be taking it upon themselves to ensure festivals are also celebrated in an eco-friendly manner. Dharaa Foundation, a group of four youngsters from Kukatpally, went the same way and distributed over 150 clay Ganesha idols ahead of Vinayaka Chaturthi.
“We were involved in activities in orphanages and old-age homes before and we wanted to take up something for the environment. That’s how we took up this initiative and along with a clay idol, we also distributed saplings for free,” says Shravani Kunchakuri of the group. Shravani, a young IT employee, along with youngsters Aswin, Vinil and Bharath worked to make this happen.
Taking up this initiative at a cost of Rs 7,000 raised through friends and family, the group sourced the idols from a vendor in Bachupally and distributed the idols in Pragathi Nagar.
