Hyderabad: Two Hyderabad boys – Mohit Shekher Shukla and Kuchi Sandeep – figured among the top five ranks in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026 results declared by IIT Roorkee on Monday.
Mohit Shekher Shukla, a student of Sri Chaitanya IIT Academy, bagged all India fourth rank and stood topper from Telangana. He was also adjudged the topper in IIT-Madras zone, which covers Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu States. Sandeep who studied at Narayana Educational Institutions at Madhapur secured all India fifth rank.
Speaking to ‘Telangana Today’, Mohit said he did expect a good rank after appearing for the examination. “After the test, I expected that I would score about 300 marks and a good rank. I am delighted with my achievement,” he shared.
Mohit is now planning to join his brother, who is pursuing a Computer Science and Engineering programme at IIT Bombay. “I want to pursue Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay, which is widely known for courses, campus placements and pay packages. I have not decided anything about my future plans, but I intend to take up a job after engineering,” he said.
As for his preparation for one of the toughest examinations in the country, Mohit shared that he studied about eight to 10 hours a day without any distraction from social media or friends. “Except for WhatsApp, I did not use social media. My main focus was on topping the examination and getting into IIT Bombay,” he said.
Both of Mohit’s parents are scientists with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). While his mother, a Computer Science engineer, quit her job to take care of the family, his father is still with the ISRO.
“Except for using a computer to Google information, we have not provided him with a mobile phone since Mohit’s childhood. He made a few silly mistakes, otherwise he would have secured the first rank. We are happy with his achievement,” Mohit’s father shared. Earlier, Mohit scored 228th rank in JEE Main.
