Hyderabad’s Sardar Mahal to be renovated

Hyderabad: Efforts will soon be initiated to restore the lost glory of one of Hyderabad’s oldest structure, Sardar Mahal which has been crying for attention for long.
The 121 year-old palace which once ranked high among the list of places to stop for those visiting Charminar, and later was abuzz with activity housing the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) south zone office, is all set to get the much needed attention with restoration and renovation works.
MA&UD Principal Secretary, Arvind Kumar, on Saturday visited the site and later tweeted that restoration and renovation of Sardar Mahal near Charminar were being finalised. “Exciting plans are in place for its revival along with Nampally Sarai by GHMC. These will add further to the value and character of Hyderabad,” he tweeted.
Sardar Mahal was a palace built in European style by Nizam VI Mir Mahboob Ali Khan in 1900. It was declared as a heritage building by the Heritage Conservation Committee and INTACH.
Earlier, there was a proposal to covert Sardar Mahal into a museum to showcase the history of the region through maps, paintings, pictures and display the heritage of the erstwhile Hyderabad State beside conserving the heritage structure and attract the visitors and tourists.
