Hyderabad: Hyderabad Road Development and Administration Authority (HYDRAA) Commissioner, AV Ranganath visited Malkam cheruvu in Gachibowli on Friday to assess the causes of recent flooding in the area due to heavy rains on August 7 night.
Officials explained that the problem arose due to a large inflow into the lake and insufficient outflow. They mentioned that currently, water is only being drained through an overflow channel, and installing sluice gates would help manage water levels during the rainy season.
The Commissioner instructed relevant officials to start these works immediately after the rains subside.
Ranganath pointed out that heavy floods from the Biodiversity Park surroundings and Shaikpet areas were getting stuck at the start of the bridge and suggested arrangements to direct this water into Malkam cheruvu .
It may be noted here that a woman trapped in the flood waters near SBI Executive Enclave, Green Valley in Banjara Hills, was rescued by the agency’s DRF teams.
