Hyderabad: Following complaints from locals on encroachments causing submergence of residential clusters, the Hydraa on Friday took up the exercise of removing encroachments along the IDL nala and Balkapur nala.
The nala, which starts from Balkapur lake in Shankarpally of Rangareddy district, traverses through the IT corridors to enter the city at Chintalbasthi and from there crosses Thummalabasthi and Khairtabad to join Hussain Sagar. The Hydraa officials said the nala had encroachments at many places and was restricted to 5 metres from its original 8 metres between Thummalabasti and Anandanagar, causing inundations during the rains.
The Hydraa removed the fence built by the function hall and gave time to some others on the assurance that they would remove the encroachments.
Meanwhile, the officials said encroachments at the IDL nala in Kukatpally had narrowed it from 7 metres to 2 metres at many points, which caused inundations at Habib Nagar, Srihari Nagar and Shivshakti Nagar. The encroachments by function halls too were removed and steps taken to ensure free flow in the nala.
