Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (Hydraa) on Tuesday demolished encroachments in Hydernagar of Rajendranagar mandal and reclaimed 1,094 square yards of land meant for public use from illegal possession.

In 2001, the AG Office Cooperative Housing Society developed a layout under the name Nalanda Nagar Colony in Hydernagar, which was approved by HUDA at the time. However, the sellers of the land allegedly claimed an adjacent 1,004 square yards as part of their property and encroached upon it, according to Hydraa authorities.

Representatives of Nalanda Nagar Colony filed a complaint with Hydraa stating that the land earmarked for public amenities was encroached upon. After an investigation, Hydraa identified the 1,094 square yards as belonging to Nalanda Nagar.

On Tuesday, Hydraa officials demolished the fence and a temporary shed set up at the site. During the operation, those involved in the encroachment attempted to resist and protested. Rajendranagar police intervened and brought the situation under control.
