Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (Hydraa) has hired 16 transgenders, including 11 trans women and five trans men, as part of an initiative to safeguard lakes, parks and government land.

In a press release on Friday, Hydraa announced the formation of the ‘Hydraa Eagle Team’, and its members were provided with official uniforms. The Hydraa Eagle Team will be actively engaged in duties related to the removal of encroachments and the protection of State property.

The Eagle Team has already played an active role in protecting 862 acres of government land in Ameenpur mandal of Sangareddy district, as well as in Edulakunta and Madhapur, the press release said.

The Eagle Team has been tasked with patrolling encroached lands, engaging with the public to resolve conflicts and facilitating coordination between government officials and residents.

Hydraa expressed confidence that their involvement would prove effective in field operations. Many of the individuals hired said the employment would provide them with a steady monthly income and an opportunity to support their families.
