Hyderabad: Sreenidi Deccan FC suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Delhi FC in their fourth match of the I-League 2024-25 season at the Deccan Arena on Monday.
Stephane Samir scored the only goal of the game in the 71st minute, securing all three points for Delhi FC. SDFC head coach Rui Amorim made three changes to his starting line-up, with Faysal Shayesteh, Abhishek Ambekar, and William Oliveira replacing Roly Bonevacia, David Castaneda, and Emboklang Nongkhlaw.
The Deccan Warriors began the match positively, maintaining possession and creating opportunities in the opposition’s half. However, the visitors’ defence was resolute, allowing no shots on target in the early stages. Midway through the first half, Angel Orelien’s powerful effort from outside the box rattled the crossbar, but the Panamanian forward’s attempt failed to alter the scoreline and the first half concluded goallessly.
Both teams made two changes during the break, but Delhi gradually gained control, creating more chances. In the 71st minute, substitute Jakob delivered a precise pass to Stephane Samir inside the box, and the Cameroonian forward capitalised, scoring the decisive goal.
In response, Rui Amorim made an attacking substitution, bringing on David Castaneda for Eli Sabia. The Colombian forward combined well with William and Angel in the attacking third, but despite a late push and seven minutes of added time, Sreenidi Deccan FC couldn’t find the equaliser. The Deccan Warriors will aim to bounce back when they host Dempo FC on Friday.
