iBomma founder may face up to 7 years in jail, say Hyderabad Police
The Hyderabad Police has filed multiple charges against iBomma founder Immadi Ravi in a large-scale digital piracy case. He faces Sections under the IT Act, BNS and Copyright Act, with possible imprisonment ranging from 3 to 7 years if convicted
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police has filed multiple serious charges against ‘iBomma’ founder and administrator Immadi Ravi, who was arrested recently in connection with a large-scale digital piracy of films. If found guilty he may face a jail term anywhere between 3 to 7 years.
The case includes sections 66C and 66E under the IT Act, section 318(4) / 3(5) of the BNS and sections 63 and 65 of the Copyright Act.
According to legal provisions, the potential punishments are:
*IT Act 66C and 66E:
Using another person’s ID without permission and violation of digital privacy can lead to up to 3 years’ imprisonment and a fine between Rs 1 and 2 lakh.
*BNS 318(4):
Illegal misappropriation or theft of others’ property for monetary gain carries a maximum punishment of 7 years in jail.
*Copyright Act 63 and 65:
Copyright infringement can result in 6 months to 3 years imprisonment, along with substantial fines.
