ICAR approves two all India Coordinated Research Project Centres on Cotton in Telangana
In a letter, the ICAR has communicated its decision on establishing the centres to Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Aldas Janaiah.
Hyderabad: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) approved establishment of two all India Coordinated Research Project Centres on Cotton in the State.
In a letter, the ICAR has communicated its decision on establishing the centres to Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Aldas Janaiah.
After the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State bifurcation, Telangana lost its representation in the national-level cotton research coordination centres. As a result, PJTAU was unable to participate in the national cotton research system for the past decade, the university said.
Prof. Janaiah recently met ICAR Director General Dr. Himanshu Pathak and Deputy Director General Dr. TP Sharma and emphasized the importance of cotton research in Telangana. He requested that PJTAU be included in the national cotton research coordination programme and that two centres be established in the State – one main centre at Warangal and a sub-center at Adilabad.
Apart from establishing the centres, ICAR will provide staff and funding to support cotton research in the university, Prof. Janaiah said, adding that the centres will begin full-fledged research activities from the next financial year.
