Hyderabad: The City Police, who were hitherto focused on creating awareness on the ‘Mask On’ policy, will from now begin strict enforcement of the law and take action against violators.
This comes after Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s directions on Thursday to Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy to intensify enforcement and to impose a fine of Rs 1,000 on those not wearing masks in public places.
The DGP on Friday directed all Commissioners, Superintendents of Police and unit heads to intensify the enforcement of mask usage in public places, with immediate effect.
The Traffic Police will book cases for violation after taking photographs of violators. Violations will be checked from the Command and Control Centre as well. “Your mask protects me and my mask protects you. Together, we will protect our near and dear people. The cases are on the rise and they are rising faster than earlier. So it goes without saying that wearing a mask and maintaining social distance is very important for everyone without exception,” Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said.
The Rachakonda Police too have already started enforcement of the ‘Mask On’ policy within their limits. “I urge people to stay away from crowds and to follow guidelines to prevent the virus from reaching our doorsteps,” Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said, adding that those not wearing masks would face prosecution apart from being levied a fine of Rs 1,000.
