IICT scientists launch ‘Jigyasa’ in Kothagudem schools

IICT Chief Scientist Dr. D Shailaja presented stationery to students at Nava Bharat High School at Paloncha in Kothagudem on Saturday.

Kothagudem: A team of scientists from CSIR -Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad visited Zilla Parishad High School at Chatakonda and Nava Bharat High School at Paloncha in Kothagudem.

IICT Chief Scientist Dr. D Shailaja, Principal Scientists Dr. J Vatsalarani and Dr. S Srilatha (Nodal Officer-Jigyasa programme) and Scientist Dr. Sanjib Paul were among the team that visited the schools and launched the virtual lab programme ‘Jigyasa’ on Saturday.

Addressing the students, the Chief Scientist explained that the Jigyasa platform not only connects students and scientists but also facilitates classroom learning with laboratory research for school students. Prime Minister Narendra Modi aspired to connect scientists with the students and strengthen scientific acumen in the future generations. The new facility would be beneficial to the students of sixth to 12th standard as it provides online interaction sessions on pedagogical basis.

In addition to that, learning content such as videos, chats, animations, quiz, webinars and others would be available to boost the scientific zeal among the students in rural areas, Dr. Shailaja said. The special feature of this programme was content could be accessed in regional languages and that widens the scope of the programme help to reach more students. The scientists interacted with students and answered their queries.

Nava Bharat Ventures Limited (NVBL) Vice President Y Sreenivasa Murthy noted that NBVL would support education programmes that could be beneficial to the rural students. Students were presented stationery on the occasion.
It might be noted that last month NBVL signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad for implementing ‘Jigyasa’ in the district. Nava Bharat School principal AVS Reddy, Deputy Manager (CSR activities) M Srinivas Rao and others were present.
