Sangareddy: Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) secured the 7th spot in Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) rankings which were announced by the Ministry of Education on Wednesday.
The IIT-H, which was listed under the Institutes of National Importance and Central Universities category, improved on its ranking from last year’s 19th to 7th this year. The premier institute had bagged the 10th rank in 2019. IIT-H is the only institute to feature in the top 10 of the rankings from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and it is also the only second generation IIT-H to feature in the top ten. IIT-Madras, the mentor of IIT-H, ranked first for the third consecutive time.
ARIIA is an initiative of the Ministry of Education (MoE) to systematically rank all major higher educational institutions and universities in the country on indicators related to “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development” amongst students and faculties. union Minister for Education Dr Subhas Sarkar announced the result at a programme in New Delhi.
Expressing his delight over IIT-H’s phenomenal performance, Director Prof BS Murty said: “Today, IIT-H is a brand of its own. This achievement is due to the sheer hard work of the students, staff, faculty members, and the vision of the torch bearers of this institute and more importantly our alumni. I would also like to place on record our gratitude for the support of the Ministry of Education and JICA in our growth path. With new and interdisciplinary academic programs that are the need of the hour and in line with the NEP-2020, IIT-H is destined to attract a pool of highly talented students and faculty members to invent and innovate in technology for humanity and make IIT-H “a dream destination for every Academician, Researchers and Industry. We are working in the direction to establish an eco-system that generates human resources that are not only academically strong but also industry-ready & socially-relevant.”
The Director said that the focus on innovation with various avenues to support ideation to implementation has helped them get the best ever rank. He said that they have created an excellent ecosystem for entrepreneurship by setting up three incubation centres and the pre-incubation unit, a department of Entrepreneurship and Management, a Minor in Entrepreneurship and a Dual Degree in Techno-Entrepreneurship. Prof Murty said that they were providing regular mentoring by roping experts from Institute’s Innovation Council. Saying that the IIT-H will always take up solution-oriented research, the Director said that they have introduced industry-oriented academic programmes besides creating world-class Infrastructure at the institute.
He further said that they would maintain the best-in-class faculty-students ratio, male-female ratio in addition to having an alumni base across the globe.
