Hyderabad: Mohammed Azharuddin reiterated he continued to be the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and the `illegal’ Apex Council cannot serve any show-cause notice to him. “I will not be cowed down by these tactics. In fact, they are tainted officials. The HCA constitution says that without the president, they cannot hold any Apex Council meeting. I’m in control of the association as I’m the constitutional head. I have informed the BCCI on the present developments,’’ said Azharuddin at a crowded press conference here on Thursday.

Azharuddin said secretary Vijayanand and treasurer Surender Agarwal are facing enquiry by the Ombudsman Justice (retd) Deepak Verma for owning multiple clubs. They allegedly won eight and six clubs respectively. Anrudha’s husband P Yadgiri, a former treasurer of HCA, is also an owner of multiple clubs that were fraudulently acquired and still want to exercise control through proxy. We are waiting for the directives from the Ombudsman’s directive,’’ he said.

He explained that he had got the support of the BCCI. “The president (Sourav Ganguly) had asked me whether the (Apex Council appointed) CEO Suneel Kante had my concurrence, I said no.’’

The former Indian captain said he wanted the stalemate to end. “I’m ready for fresh elections. I am a cricketer.’’
