Hyderabad: VAV Rajesh, the International Master from Indian Railways, scored 8.5 points to win the All India Open Rapid FIDE Rating Chess Championship, conducted by the Telangana State Chess Association, at the LB Stadium.
He overcame the talented Telangana under-11 player Adireddy Arjun on the top board in his final round. International Master Muthaiah AL (Tamil Nadu) took the second place with eight points after his win over State player Sriram Adharsha Uppala on the second board. Tamil Nadu’s Narendra Pallavan (8) got the better of experienced Russian Dimitry for the third place.
This is the first onboard chess tournament after the Covid-19 pandemic-forced break and a total of 410 players competed in the event.
