IMA Telangana condemns assault on Dr Santosh Raj in Nirmal

The Indian Medical Association Telangana condemned the assault on paediatrician Dr Santosh Raj in Nirmal, following a billing dispute. IMA demanded immediate arrest, implementation of non-bailable warrants, and stronger enforcement of laws to protect healthcare workers and public health services.

Hyderabad: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Telangana on Friday condemned the alleged physical assault on Dr Santosh Raj, a paediatrician practising in Nirmal, Adilabad and urged authorities for the immediate arrest of individuals responsible for the attack.

“The incident occurred on the night of Thursday, March 26, 2026, at a private hospital. According to reports, the conflict began when a post-discharge patient’s relative demanded an unreasonable increase in a reimbursement bill. The argument escalated into physical violence against Dr Santosh Raj and the hospital staff,” IMA Telangana said.

In a formal representation addressed to Dr G Janaki Sharmila, IPS, District Superintendent of Police (SP), Nirmal, the IMA leadership expressed “serious concern over the rising instances of such unjustified and unlawful violent behaviour against healthcare institutions.”

The state president, IMA, Telangana, Dr P Kishan, state secretary, Dr V Ashok, urged authorities to immediately arrest the culprits and demanded implementation of non-bailable warrants against the accused.

“Such actions not only endanger the lives of medical professionals but also disrupt essential public health services for the community. The State government must strengthen and strictly enforce laws in Telangana to safeguard healthcare workers and prevent the recurrence of such incidents, IMA, Telangana said.
