IMD forecasts thunderstorms and gusty winds across Telangana
Thunderstorms brought relief from heat across Telangana, with Hyderabad recording light rainfall and several districts witnessing heavy showers. IMD has forecast more thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across the State over the next few days.
HYDERABAD: After weeks of intense dry heat, residents of Hyderabad and several districts in Telangana woke up to overcast skies on Wednesday morning following overnight thunderstorms across the State.
Between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday, parts of Hyderabad and neighbouring districts, including Vikarabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri, recorded light rainfall ranging from 8 mm to 12.5 mm.
In contrast, several districts received heavy rainfall. Dahegaon in Kumram Bheem district recorded the highest rainfall at 75.8 mm, followed by Kulkacherla in Vikarabad (56.8 mm), Bela in Adilabad (53.88 mm) and Bejjur in Kumram Bheem (52.8 mm), according to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, has forecast thunderstorms over the next few days, indicating that weather conditions are likely to remain overcast with spells of rain accompanied by gusty winds until the weekend.
“Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are very likely to occur at isolated places across all districts of Telangana,” the IMD forecast said.
