Hyderabad: With the race to top 4 getting closer with every game, table toppers Hyderabad FC look to consolidate their position at the top and inch closer to the knockouts when they take on struggling FC Goa on Saturday.
The Manolo Marquez-coached side are at the top with 29 points from 16 games. After losing their match against ATK Mohun Bagan, Hyderabad returned to winning ways defeating Bengaluru FC 2-0 in their previous game. However, the three points from their match against Goa are crucial given the tough road ahead.
Speaking on the eve of the match, Marquez said, “We are at the top now but when you don’t play well, the opponents get closer. So, the only thing we can tell the players is to take it step-by-step and game-by-game. We have to be focused on the Goa clash and think about one game at a time,” added the Spaniard.
The 53-year-old said that Goa is a strong opponent and can cause problems. “There are a few circumstances that forced Goa to be in the position that they are in right now.But they are strong opponents. When you play against the teams that are fighting to improve their position but not a top 4 spo, they can play with more calmness and fearless game. Every game is different. We have to be focused throughout the game,” he added.
All eyes will be on striker Bartholomew Ogbeche who is one away from his 50th league goal. Though he failed to find his name on the scoresheet in the previous game, he is in fine form. With Joao Victor and Javi Siverio scoring goals, Hyderabad have more goalscorers in their squad that can threaten any opposition.
Marquez feels the result in the game is key. “If we win tomorrow, we will not qualify yet. If we lose tomorrow, we are not out of the fight for the top-4. But we want to win this game and are preparing for the same. I hope we can add three more points tomorrow,” said Manolo.
