Hyderabad: The way Hyderabadis buy pre-owned cars is drastically different from other States in India. If a latest analysis by a pre-owned car brand is anything to go by then in Hyderabad 30 per cent of the car buyers are women unlike the national average that stands at 11 per cent. In addition, buyers from the city of Nizams seem to prefer hatchbacks like Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Elite i20.

“Whether it is first-time purchases or upgrades, buyers from Hyderabad prefer pre-owned cars. We are seeing that buyers prefer hatchbacks over other segments. In addition, in 2020 we saw that 20 per cent of Spinny buyers were women and in the last six months of 2021, women car buyers stood at almost 30 per cent unlike the national average of 11 per cent,” an analysis by Spinny said.

It also added that there was a clear increase in the demand for compact SUVs from women with 34 per cent month-on-month demand growth for compact SUVs in the price range of Rs 6-8 lakh.

Meanwhile, the top preference in SUVs is Hyundai Creta, in hatchbacks they prefer Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Elite i20 and in sedans, Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Dzire are preferred choices. People wishing to upgrade are choosing pre-owned cars from Hyundai and Honda, especially Hyundai Creta, it informed.

The young age group of 25 to 35-year-olds seems to be accounting for most of the buyers with the 30 to 40-year-olds looking to upgrade cars. “In the case of fuel preferences, people prefer petrol cars due to the diesel scrappage policy with 75 per cent of buyers opting for petrol used cars. Most buyers are purchasing cars for family use. Consequently, many are buying larger cars such as SUVs and sedans as they aim to upgrade cars better suiting their family needs,” the report said.
